  INTRODUCTION
=======================================
DFInstall is a simple Windows program that can be used to install the game of
Daggerfall from your CD to your hard-drive. It was created due to the original
Daggerfall installer is a DOS application that sometimes has problems in some
of the newer operating systems (such as WinXP). For more information contact
  me at the above address.

  QUICK INSTALLATION
=======================================
  1. Unzip the DFInstall.ZIP into a directory of your choice. It can be deleted
     after the installation is complete.
  2. Run the DFInstall.EXE program with your Daggerfall CD-ROM in the CD drive.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen, choosing your source and destination
     game paths.
  4. Choose the options as desired (see notes below for more information).
  5. Install the game (time depends on your hardware).
  6. Close the installer once it is complete. There should be no errors.
  7. Try and run the game and hopefully it will work. For more information on
     getting it running, goto http:/12.145.63.45/~uesp/general/gen95.shtml

  DETAILED INFORMATION
=======================================

    Start
  ---------------------------
Gives basic information on the installer. Click the About button for more
information, the Cancel button to abort, or Next to continue.

    Choose Options
  ---------------------------
This page allows you to select some basic options for your Daggerfall
	installation.

		Modify the Z.CFG file
Select this option if you would like the installer to automatically
configure this file for your game. If you do not select this the game
will not work correctly until you edit the Z.CFG file and set the
correct game and CD paths. Selecting this option will also enable
cheats within the game (only if you patch to v2.13 as well).

Add a shortcut to the desktop
Creates a shortcut icon on your desktop for running Daggerfall. If you
choose to install the game to run without the CD you will need this
option selected in order to run the game.

        Install the v2.13 patch
The installer comes with the latest patch from Bethesda which fixes
a large number of issues in the game and greatly improves it's
stability. Uncheck this option if you wish to run another version or
			install the patch manually.

Install to play without the CD
Select this option to be able to play the game without it requiring
you to have the Daggerfall CD in the drive. If you select this option
the game will not run by simply executing the Dagger.EXE file as
normally. You must create a shortcut to run the command 'FALL.EXE Z.CFG'
in order to run the game (done automatically if you choose to create a
			desktop shortcut).

        Run Sound Setup
If this item is selected the game's sound setup utility will be run
automatically once all the files are copied to the hard drive. It is
recommended that you disable sound/music the first time you run the game
and then enable it later. Typically the auto-detect option in the sound
setup should be able to find your sound card.

Again, select the Next button to continue the installation.

    Select Paths
  ---------------------------
You will be asked to select the source and destination paths for your game
installation. The source path must point to the Daggerfall CD or a complete
copy of the CD on a hard drive (for faster installations). The destination
path can be any existing or new path. You will be prompted when creating a
	new directory.

    Start Install
  ---------------------------
Select the Next button to start copying files, Back to change your installation
paths/options, and Cancel to abort the installation.

    Installing...
  ---------------------------
This page shows the total installation progress while copying files. You can press
the Cancel button at any time to abort the installation. Once the install is
complete the patch and sound setup will be run (if you selected those options). You
will be prompted several times during the patch process (select Yes each time).

    Completed
  ---------------------------
This final page will tell you whether the installation was successfull or if
any errors were encountered. Press the Ok button to close the installer.

  PROBLEMS
=======================================

  Errors Choosing the Source/Destination Paths
     - Make sure you have a complete copy of your Daggerfall CD as your source. If
some files are missing the installation may not work.
	 - For your destination path, make sure the drive has at least 600 MB free disk
	   space.

  Errors During Copying Files
     - Ensure the destination drive has enough free space.
	 - Make sure the Daggerfall CD is in good condition. Any deep scratches, cracks,
or dirt may make the CD unusable. Try cleaning any obvious smudges/dirt from
the CD glently and try again.
	 - Copy the game CD to your hard drive for faster installations.

  Z.CFG Errors
     - You may have to edit this file manually and ensure that the PATH and PATHCD
	   point to the correct directories.

  Patch Errors
     - Check to see that you have the file DAG213.EXE in the same directory as
DFINSTALL.EXE. You can install this later

  Save Game Error
     - Previous versions of DFInstall caused a crash with the game when you
attempted to save a game. You must create the paths SAVE0-SAVE5 in the
main Daggerfall game directory. Also make sure that your Z.CFG file has the
	   correct game and CD paths.
